Ranked as the European Capital of Culture, the plentiful museums and excellent art galleries within Linz are truly something to celebrate. Museum goers are able to purchase the Linz Museum Card, which is quite inexpensive and valid for no less than 11 attractions, a number of which are based on or around the aptly named Museumstrasse.

Always popular is the Ars Electronica Centre (Museum of the Future), where with a little helping hand from virtual reality, you can 'fly' over the city of Linz, and into the future. At the opposite end of the spectrum and filled with Austrian history, the Schlossmuseum (Castle Museum) is located on the Tummelplatz and is actually home to one of Beethoven's pianos.




Those with an interest in contemporary art should pay a visit to the Landesgalerie Linz (Provincial Gallery), which is actually to be found within the original building housing the Museum of the Province of Upper Austria. Alternatively, the Lentos Museum of Modern Art Linz is one of the city's leading modern art galleries and features everything from photography exhibits to inspiring sculptures.
